Robert "Bob" Michael Lorkowski, 83, a resident of Hagerman, passed away on Sunday, April 7, 2024 at his home in Hagerman, Idaho. Bob was born on April 24, 1940 in Buffalo, New York to Ben and Pearl Lorkowski. He married Margaret on October 25, 1957 in Compton, California.
Bob was in the U.S. Navy and he had a successful 20-year career as a sonar technician rising to the rank of Senior Chief. In 1981, he graduated from San Diego State University with a Masters Degree of Science in Geology. Bob loved geology, and working for Amoco Oil, where he discovered new areas for oil exploration. He also loved to teach, and was a science teacher in Hesperia, California, specializing in Physics and Chemistry. Later, Bob was a volunteer for Hagerman Fossil Beds. He did this over several summers before moving to Idaho full time in 2006. Bob also had a passion for trains, he enjoyed riding them all over the country. He also enjoyed building elaborate model train sets, complete with all the details of a bustling town.
He is survived by his wife Margaret “Midge” of 66 years; his three children, Gregory Lorkowski of Euless, Texas, Donald Lorkowski of Tampa, Florida, Jacqueline Maloney of Meridian, Idaho; four grandchildren, Jason and Kevin Maloney, Alex and Saori Lorkowski; his sister, Christine Lorkowski of Mountain Home, Arkansas.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Ben and Pearl; his brother, Richard.
A rosary service will be held on Monday, April 15, 2024 at 5:00 pm at St. Catherine's Catholic Church, 446 N. State St., in Hagerman, Idaho, followed by a funeral mass at 5:30 pm.
Cremation arrangements are under the care and direction of Demaray Funeral Service - Gooding Chapel.
